Girl Par-tay!

For our annual ultimate girl par-tay, Becca and Azure Brinkerhoff came as well as Lindsay.  Becca helped us make pillowcase dresses.

Azure and Hazel

Sylvia’s pillow case dress.

Isabel’s pillowcase dress.

Lindsay’s pillowcase dress.

Hazel’s pillowcase dress.

Sylvia wanted a bunny on her dress.  Isabel and Lindsay got a giraffe and unicorn on their second dresses.

When we are old and our husbands have died, I am going to move in with Becca so that I can get amazing turtle pancakes every morning!

Garden Update

It’s late spring and the saguaros in our front yard have lovely hair-dos!

We got our first small batch of tomatoes the other day.

The flamingos are our scarecrows.  They scare the vegetable eating bugs away.

Pumpkin

We also have a number of fruit trees.  These apricots will be ready to pick in a few days.

Make Your Own Laundry Detergent (Liquid and Powder) and Toothpaste

Liquid Laundry Detergent
1 bar of Felz Naptha or Zote (1/4 bar) soap shaved
1 cup borax
2 cups washing soda
1 cup baking soda
3 gallons of hot water
Grate soap into sauce pan.  Add 4 cups of hot water.  Simmer on low until soap disolves. Add borax, washing soda, and baking soda. Mix. Add 3 gallons of hot water to bucket.  Add soap mix.  Stir and let cool. Use 1 cup per load (1/2 cup for high efficient machines.)

Powder Laundry Detergent
1 bar of Felz Naptha Soap
1 bar Dove or Ivory
1 cup of Borax
1 cup of washing soda
1/2 cup baking soda
Grate each bar. Mix with powders. Use 2 Tablespoons per load (1 tablespoon for high efficient machines.)

We also made toothpaste.  baking soda, water and mint flavor.

It was pretty disgusting.  Note Sylvia spitting and rinsing her mouth out.

We also made our own dish detergent but I am still trying to perfect it so I don’t want to put the recipe up.  But google it and try it out!

Isabel’s Typewriter

Isabel is our child who is good at saving her money and spending it wisely.  After she received some birthday money (thanks Aunt Beverly!) she knew she would finally have enough for her dream purchase.  A 1940′s typewriter.

“Isabel, you spent your money wisley”

Isabel is Ten

Isabel and Lindsay made this sign, “Par-tay this way.”

Oh no, the guests are one minute late!

Isabel chose to have Jarritos (hecho en Mexico) and finger foods at her party.

Aunt Natalie made the Happy Birthday banner.  The thimble and spools banner I bought on etsy.com

The girls helped.

Waiting to get their initials ironed on.

Sewing!

I actually just pretended that I knew what I was doing, thank goodness Lynn Perrello was there to help.  The girls did great and were very creative.

Isabel’s room.

That day, Lindsay lost a tooth while at the party, later Isabel lost a tooth and after that, Sylvia lost her first tooth!  You better believe Hazel was trying to wiggle her teeth :(  Sometimes the tooth fairy brings pink snowballs from the gas station.
